Cheapest way to get in cash

    • Always choose to be charged in baht (THB). If an ATM or card machine offers to convert to your currency (“dynamic currency conversion”), decline. It often adds 3–8%.
    • Thai ATMs charge foreign cards ฿250 (Visa) or ฿350 (Mastercard) per withdrawal, per SCB and UOB fee schedules (the old ฿220 fee was raised in 2026), so take out larger amounts less often.
Spend in baht at the real exchange rateA Wise card converts at the mid-market rate with a small fee. Thai ATM fees still apply.

    How we calculate

Each travel style uses a typical daily cost per person (shared room, no international flights) taken from 2026 Thailand budget guides, times your region factor, travellers and days. Extras and your buffer are then added. Solo travellers in a private room pay a room supplement.

For cash, we take your cash share of the budget and price three ways to get it. Exchanging notes costs the money-changer’s margin. ATMs cost ฿250/฿350 per withdrawal of up to ฿20,000 plus your bank’s foreign fee. With Wise you pay the same ATM fee plus Wise’s conversion fee and, above the free allowance, its ATM fee. Conversions use the live mid-market rate.

Estimates only. Margins, fees and region factors are the defaults in the Assumptions panel; edit them to match your card and route. Wise allowances shown are for US accounts and differ by country. Exchange rates: ECB reference rates via frankfurter.dev (static snapshot), 2026-10-16.
