How much eSIM data do I need?
Tell us how you use your phone and for how long. We estimate your data use and suggest a plan size, so you don’t pay for gigabytes you won’t use.
We may earn a commission if you book through our links, at no extra cost to you. How we make money
Per day
Including ~100 MB of background app activity.
Where your data goes
- Set phone backups, app updates and photo sync to Wi-Fi only before you fly. One cloud backup can use a whole small plan.
- Video is the big driver: one hour of HD Netflix is up to 3 GB, the same as about 300 hours of navigation.
- Many Thailand eSIMs can be topped up in the app, so buying a slightly smaller plan is low-risk.
How we calculate
For each activity we multiply your hours per day by a typical data rate published by carriers and Netflix (for example about 10 MB an hour for navigation and 0.7 GB an hour for standard-definition video). We reduce that by the share you’ll do on Wi-Fi and add background data for app refresh and sync.
The daily total is multiplied by your trip length and the safety buffer is added. We then pick the smallest common plan size that covers it, or suggest unlimited data above about 2.5 GB a day.
Estimates only. Usage rates are typical figures (real use varies with app settings and video quality). The buffer and background data are the defaults in the Assumptions panel. Plan sizes are illustrative, not a price list.
