Short answer: for a solo traveller aged 18–39, SafetyWing Essential at $62.72 per 4 weeks is the cheapest published price we found. Genki Traveler is close and has a clear €50 outpatient deductible. For a short holiday, get one single-trip quote too (many home-country insurers sell those). Prices depend heavily on age, and the cheapest plan isn’t the cheapest if it excludes what’s most likely to happen to you.

What does Thailand require?

As of 18 Oct 2026, no travel insurance is required at entry for visa-exempt tourists. That’s separate from some long-stay visas, which have their own rules. Check your visa type.

What’s coming: Thailand is moving ahead with a proposed ฿450 foreign-visitor entry fee. Part of the revenue would go to insurance coverage for foreign visitors, but it still needs public consultation and Cabinet approval (Khaosod English, 9 Oct 2026). Don’t treat it as a replacement for your own insurance. Its cover terms aren’t published.

SafetyWing: the prices

From safetywing.com/nomad-insurance, ages 18–39, checked 18 Oct 2026:

  • Essential: $62.72 per 4 weeks. Covers new, unexpected issues, hospital stays, surgery, medication, evacuation, lost luggage and travel delays, plus up to 30 days at home. Cover lasts up to 364 days at a time.
  • Complete: $177.50 per month. Full health insurance, including routine care and mental health.
  • 10% off if you pay 364 days upfront. There’s no public promo code. See our SafetyWing page.
  • Essential doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions, maternity care or cancer treatment, per SafetyWing.

Genki Traveler

Genki retired Genki Explorer and replaced it with Genki Traveler (Genki help center, 14 Sep 2026). The product page lists up to €1,000,000 medical cover, a €50 deductible per case for outpatient care and none for inpatient stays. You can cancel any time after the first month and pick a start date 4–90 days ahead.

Genki shows the price in a calculator. A third-party review (living-abroad.org) quotes examples of about €52.50/month at age 24 and €63.90 at age 30. Not yet verified — we'll update this after checking first-hand

Single-trip policies

For a 1–2 week holiday, a single-trip policy from a home-country insurer, or from World Nomads or Heymondo, can cost less than a monthly subscription, and may include trip cancellation, which SafetyWing Essential and Genki don’t focus on. Prices are quote-only, so we won’t print one we haven’t seen. Not checked yet — we'll add this after checking first-hand

How to choose without overpaying

  1. Match the length. Under 3 weeks: compare a single-trip quote. 1 month or more: a monthly plan like SafetyWing or Genki usually wins.
  2. Motorbikes. Many claims in Thailand involve scooters, and policies often require a valid motorcycle licence and a helmet. Read that clause first. Not yet verified — we'll update this after checking first-hand
  3. Diving and adventure sports may need an add-on.
  4. Long stays: check how long you can stay with our visa stay calculator, and insure the whole period.
  5. Compare in your currency. SafetyWing prices in USD and Genki in EUR. Use our trip cost calculator, or check rates with Wise.
